rant post? a constructive rant though.

initially, i was going to reoutifit my blog to reflect something more than the paltry nonsense i was putting down to pass. then class yesterday happened, and as a whole i was pretty disappointed.  first off, Dr. B should not be changing the class to please the class. the class is working and the tests are just fine. it is our fault that we do not commit to the studying or engaging in class or paying attention in class at all. personal responsibility!! it is essential, especially in the society we're living in.  i'm not an exception to that. that test yesterday was awful, but let's be totally honest for a minute here. it's because i didn't study. i need to change the way i approach the class, not the other way around. now, i can't promise that every day following this one will be 100% retention and the whole bit, but i am going to take it more seriously because i want to. and because it is important and courteous.

the second thing that left me quite upset following class was the reaction to the dove campaign video. i understand why there was some dissension regarding the video's motives and the like, but really. are we truly so hardened and cynical that we cannot bear to acknowledge the positive possibilities of such a move? true, Dove did not use the whole range of the female person in terms of age, and yes, it might ultimately try to persuade a person to use Dove. however, the minute greenpeace released that retaliation video, Dove took action to rectify their mistake. they accepted personal responsibility and are now moving forward the best they can at the time. in the same way, Dove is looking at the way in which the beauty industry is pushing their products and admitting that there is a significant disconnect. and yes, Dove still features "modelesque" women in their commercials. but they are plus sized models.
in America, there is no way that Dove (or any company) could truly try to change things by automatically launching into it with all guns blazing. WE would not accept it at all. they'd be laughed off the market. to create true residual change, it's a slow process. but we as americans are so darn impatient, anything that does not automatically create waves and change the world is irrelevant. the catch is this, though. if it doesn't look pretty, it won't be accepted either. we put so many astericks and sidenotes on everything, it's difficult to budge outside the norm. but at least there are attempts and reactions.
I think that's why Christianity is still such a big deal. Jesus started the chain, but it's still going. And he was radical, but he still kinda played by the rules, in the beginning. you must to move anywhere!
ughhhh. more on this later. my thoughts are jumbling.
